P-BE: borosilicate sterile vent filter in P-BE housings. PF-PT: pleated hydrophobic ePTFE membrane cartridges in the same P-BE housings (P-BE sterile · PP · PTFE membrane are all listed as compatible elements) — sized from the PF-PT air-flow chart.
Draining/Filling: size on fill or drain rate. CIP: size on thermal breathing during heating/cooling cycle.
m³/h
Maximum tank drain rate (product or CIP out).
m³/h
Maximum tank fill rate.
m³
Total tank volume — used to calculate thermal contraction/expansion breathing flow.
°C
°C
min
Duration of the cooling phase — fastest rate gives the peak breathing flow.
If the tank is also heated (e.g. product fill after SIP), thermal expansion also requires venting — tool takes the maximum of heating and cooling breathing.

mbar
Maximum acceptable differential pressure across the vent filter (element + housing) at your peak breathing flow. The tool picks the smallest housing / element size (P-BE or PF-PT, as selected) that stays under this limit. The P-BE-Housing datasheet gives volume flows at Δp 20 mbar (0.29 psi) and Δp 40 mbar (0.58 psi) — lower the limit for a tighter clean-element margin.

PF-PT sizing basis
ΔP is based on the published PF-PT air-flow data for a clean 10″ cartridge (air at 20 °C; the more conservative of the datasheet and Validation Guide curves) and scaled by total cartridge length. The finest 0.1 µm curve is used for all grades (0.1–1.0 µm), because coarser grades give lower Δp. The cartridge-only Δp is shown — housing and connection losses are not included. PF-PT is offered from P-BE 0072 (1 × 10″) upward; the cartridge set follows the P-BE element length and count of each housing. Element article numbers shown are the usual 0.2 µm code-7 variants; seal (EPDM / silicone / Viton) and grade are configured per order.

Once your housing is confirmed, share the result with your team or request a quote to confirm lead time and connection spec.
This tool sizes the vent filter for breathing flow only. It does not verify that your tank can withstand the pressure or vacuum that occurs if the filter blinds. Confirm the vessel's maximum allowable over-pressure and vacuum and fit an independent vacuum breaker / pressure-relief device sized to the full breathing flow. For CIP/SIP duties confirm with an Ultrafilter engineer.
